A short but sweet stay in Sucre. A beautiful proud city, the heart of Bolivia. Although its been a two day stay I feel like I've already learnt alot about Bolivia and the indigenous cultures that exist. Our stay consisted of appreciating the colonial architecture of the white washed buildings, shopping, quad biking (sorry mum) and visiting the muesum of indigenous arts. There are tons of muesums and activities to do in Sucre, it could make your stay weeks longer than you bargained for.

The musuem was so interesting, for a textiles nerd like me. Insightful into the different cultures of the varied indigenous communities. The textiles woven are beautifully complex, the high technical quality is absorbed with spiritual and religious meaning. While the woven pieces speak in depth of the communities, the traditional clothing of the indigenous people is just as important- a form of expression and an important tool in their dances and music. The fabrics made me question my own shopping habits, making me want to shop more ethically. The musuem helps create income for the families along with dignifying their roles in history while supporting the rebirth of indigenous and traditional art.

Everything is super cheap in Sucre, all the shops and markets sell textiles and clothing for pretty much buttons. However after researching into shopping in Sucre we found a few good shops that trade fairly. For a few extra bolivianos or 'bobs' it felt good to buy things that we knew the makers would get a good percentage of the money. I mean it was still super cheap but every bit makes a difference.

Next stop Uyuni ✈✈✈✈ #bolivia #sucre #southamerica #discoversouthamerica #exploresouthamerica #backpacking #travel #travelling #travelblog #blog #instablog #textiles #fabrics #traditionaltextiles #shopping #supportmakers #handmade #woventextiles #indigenous #indigenouscommunity #indigenoustraditions
